Sole Mates: An Everyday Sort of Love

Standard

I very recently ended a long-standing relationship of about 3 years…with my green fold over boots.  It was tough but I made it through and walked away with a lovely new pair of vintage inspired boots.  I love all my shoes equally. Parting with this particular pair of shoes reminded me of that emotion.  They might not have been sky-high heels or spectacular flats but I loved them.  I can only hope this new pair treats me as well.  This is an ode to a love that never dies…

Have you ever spent weeks, maybe even months looking to replace a once wonderful pair of shoes?  Sure, you had fond memories together and many great outfits.  Time passed and things slowly started to unravel, as in actually falling apart.  Where once you were a perfect pair, now holes start to appear.  Things don’t feel the same.  You try quick fixes but something just isn’t right.  Maybe it was a fool’s errand thinking it would last forever.  The sad truth is that even sole mates can’t stand the test of time and New York City pavement.

What’s a girl to do?

After mourning the loss of a beloved pair of shoes, you realize it’s time.  Moving on is tough. There’s always the worry that though they may be new and shiny, this new sole mate just can’t live up to the memory of your past love.  You’ve got to face the music; this empty void is unacceptable.  Then the thrill of the hunt hits you!  The daydreams start, your heart racing at the thought of newness.  Realizing there are so many other colors, styles, and designers gives you butterflies.  It’s decision time.  Are you ready to make this new commitment?  Can your heart handle all the promises this new relationship will bring?

You know that you’re ready and willing to take that leap.  These soul mates are finally going to accompany you home.  It’s exciting and the possibilities are endless.
